Wally Iverson is a savvy veteran who has skill, courage, and poise - all essential elements of a championship contributor. Iverson, the oldest player on the team at 28, is popular with his teammates, and he earned a regular second-line spot on UMSL's powerful forward rotation for '05-06, his first season with the club.
Waldo is absolutely fearless. He is confident with the puck, doesn't double-clutch under pressure, and he maintains a positive attitude. He is an indispensable veteran whose personality and playing style are well suited for the forced tempo and shift-to-shift intensity of the playoffs.
Wally is a powerful skater with soft hands who is tough and courageous in traffic. He is an excellent passer and a strong finisher, and he has exceptional hockey sense. Iverson averaged a point per game during the '05-06 regular season, and was easily the Rivermen's most underrated player -- when he played, he produced. Wally finished second on the team in shooting percentage (30.1%), scoring 15 goals on 49 shots.
Iverson transferred to UMSL from Meramec CC, where he enjoyed an excellent 2004-05 as the B Green squad's top scorer, leading his team to a 17-5-1 overall record and a second-place finish in the GPCIHL B-Division tournament.
2006-07
GPCIHL Regional Championship Tournament (March 4): Wally made a great play to set up Jake Shepard for the Rivermen's first goal of the league championships, which ignited the ten-goal explosion in the semifinal blowout of Wash U . . . Played on a line with Shepard during both games, and played some of his best hockey of the season throughout.
Third GPCIHL Event Weekend(Jan. 20-21): Iverson continues to be an important role player for the Rivermen despite being bounced all over the lineup . . . Currently slotted on a line with Jake Shepard . . . Played in the B game Saturday morning vs. Illinois State; was clearly the best player on the floor during the B Rivermen's thrilling near-comeback.
Second GPCIHL Event Weekend (Nov. 18-19): Iverson had the best weekend of his career . . . Played a regular shift against Missouri State and controlled the action despite not scoring . . . Pumped in three goals vs. Western Kentucky for his second career hat trick; this one was not a Wally Iverson Hat Trick, though: this time, he did not top it off with a fight . . . Notched an assist against Kansas State.
GPCIHL Opening Weekend (Nov. 4-5): Due to the unusual amount of special-teams play, Iverson's third line sat on the bench for extended periods of time. However, Iverson performed well in limited action and still is an integral part of the team.
