Cal Poly SLO Mustangs defeated Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 4-3 in OT for the title!

Cal Poly defeated Cal Poly Pomona in a tightly contested matchup that needed overtime to decide the winner.
Cal Poly struck first midway through the opening period when Angus Brodeur found the back of the net at 11:15 with an unassisted goal. Just 32 seconds later, with just 13 seconds left in the period, Tai Melton doubled the lead, finishing a play set up by Joaquin Kiltz to give Cal Poly an early 2–0 advantage.
In the second period, Cal Poly Pomona began to claw their way back. After Joaquin Kiltz took a hooking penalty for Cal Poly at 3:44, Cal Poly Pomona’s Blake Christiano made an impact, scoring a power play goal at 5:20 to cut the lead to 2–1 heading into the third.
The third period featured a dramatic swing in momentum for Cal Poly Pomona. Just 14 seconds into the period, Sean Ogawa scored unassisted to tie the game 2–2. Ronald Espino then gave Pomona its first lead of the game with another unassisted goal at 4:42. Cal Poly responded late in regulation when Joaquin Kiltz capitalized on a pass from Brendan Hamilton at 11:33 to even the score at 3–3 and force overtime.
In overtime, Rohin Young played the hero for Cal Poly, scoring an unassisted goal at 2:29 to seal a 4–3 victory.
Both goaltenders delivered solid performances. Cal Poly Pomona’s Cameron Jeffrey faced heavy pressure, stopping 27 of 31 shots while allowing four goals, including the overtime winner. On the other side, Cal Poly’s Tom Kahle turned aside 17 of 20 shots, conceding three goals as Pomona battled back to briefly take the lead in the third period. Both netminders made key saves throughout the game to keep their teams in contention during a back-and-forth contest.
Cal Poly’s Rohin Young earned MVP honors after delivering the game-winning goal for Cal Poly in overtime. His clutch finish capped off a hard-fought comeback effort for Cal Poly. Young’s performance throughout the day also helped power Cal Poly’s success, as he recorded two goals and one assist in the team’s two round robin games earlier in the day. Congratulations Rohin!
