AA 1 Lopes come from behind to defeat AA 2 for the championship!

Grand Canyon AA 1 pulled away in the third period of the game to defeat Grand Canyon AA 2 after being deadlocked in a 2-2 tie at the end of the second period.
Grand Canyon AA 2 struck first early in the first period when Cole Gebhart finished a play from Dax Petrash at 1:38 to give AA 2 the early lead. Late in the period, Grand Canyon AA 1 responded as Dylan Fridlund found the back of the net with 1 second to go in the period, tying the game 1–1 heading into the first intermission.
AA 2 regained the lead in the second period when Trin Voorhees scored at 6:16 to make it 2–1. However, AA 1 answered just before the end of the period as Dylan Fridlund netted his second goal of the game with just 3 seconds remaining in the period, finishing a play set up by Landon Menard to tie the game once again at 2–2.
Grand Canyon AA 1 took control in the third period with a quick offensive surge. Trevor DiCori gave AA 1 its first lead of the game at 2:33 with assists from Cooper Bulkley and Austin Estes. Just 37 seconds later, Ethan Crosby extended the lead off a feed from Landon Menard. Blake Gadsby later added an unassisted goal at 9:25 to seal the victory as AA 1 pulled away for the win.
Both goaltenders faced plenty of action in a competitive matchup. For Grand Canyon AA 1, Aidan Mullarkey stopped 13 of 15 shots and allowing 2 goals, providing a steady presence as his team mounted a comeback in the third period. On the other side, Maria Ardillo of Grand Canyon AA 2 faced a heavier workload, making 13 saves on 18 shots but giving up 5 goals as AA 1’s offense surged in the third period. Both netminders made key stops to keep the game close, but AA 1’s timely scoring ultimately decided the contest.
Trevor DiCori earned MVP honors after scoring the eventual game-winning goal for Grand Canyon AA 1 early in the third period. His goal gave AA 1 its first lead of the game and set the tone for the team’s late surge to victory. DiCori’s impact extended beyond this matchup, as he had already been dominant in the round robin games earlier in the day, recording an impressive five goals and four assists.
