NCRHA Matchups of the Week - February 4-5, 2023

 February 3rd, 2023 at 2:38PM  February 4th, 2023 3:08AM

Quite a weekend we’ve got for you, with events in Texas, Illinois and New Jersey! The SCHL hosts their 3rd event of the season at Lone Start Sports in Denton, TX; the ECRHA has a full slate of DI and AA games at I.S.C.A in North Arlington, NJ; and the MCRHL has the MCRHL Inter-Regional Event, hosted at the Salt Creek Sports Center in Palatine, IL, featuring teams from the MCRHL and WCRHL.

Here are your matchups of the week!

NCRHA Division I Matchup of the Week

Arizona State University vs. Bethel University

Saturday, February 4 – 9am

Season Head to Head: 0-0, teams have not yet met this season

Arizona State Season Record: 11 wins, 1 loss (currently 1st in WCRHL DI)

Bethel Season Record: 8 wins, 4 losses (currently 2nd in MCRHL DI)

This weekend, Arizona State will face Bethel for the first time this season. The teams have a heavy weekend ahead of them, with ASU also facing Lindenwood (twice), Henry Ford and Michigan State, while Bethel also faces Lindenwood, Lindenwood AA Gold and Grand Canyon University. With all of the cross-divisional DI action this weekend, it should have a huge influence on the next coaches poll release, which will be on Friday February 10.

NCRHA Division II Matchup of the Week

Michigan State University vs. The Ohio State University

Saturday, February 4 – 3pm

Season Head to Head: Ohio State leads season series 2-1

Michigan State Season Record: 1 win, 10 losses (currently 1st in MCRHL DII)

Ohio State Season Record: 7 wins, 7 losses (currently 2nd in MCRHL DII)

Both teams being in the same conference means they will play each other a total of 6 times in the regular season. So far it is 2-1 Ohio State that leads. In their first 2 matchups in Indianapolis, it was a split, as Ohio State won 7-4 in the Saturday game but then Michigan State avenged that loss with a 5-1 win in the Sunday game. The next time they faced off was at the Huntingdon, TN event on Nov. 19, where Ohio State took the 6-4 win.

After this weekend, the teams will play a double header on February 18 in West Bloomfield, MI.

NCRHA Division III Matchup of the Week

Colorado State University vs. Sam Houston State University

Saturday, February 4 – 7:30pm

Season Head to Head: Colorado State leads season series 2-0, with 2 wins on Nov. 19-20

Colorado State Season Record: 4 wins, 2 losses (currently 2nd in SCHL DIII)

Sam Houston State Season Record: 4 wins, 3 losses (currently 3rd in SCHL DIII)

Another matchup that will show if the November results will hold for the rest of the season. The 2nd half of the season is time to step it up, so we will see what SHSU comes out with. The teams are neck and neck in the SCHL DIII standings, and this event will likely separate the pack. University of Colorado, the SCHL DIII leader (12 wins, 1 overtime loss) is idle this weekend, but teams 2, 3, and 4 in SCHL DIII (as well as Tampa) will duke it out in Denton, TX.

NCRHA Division AA Matchup of the Week

Farmingdale State College vs. Slippery Rock University

Saturday, February 4 – 1pm

Season Head to Head: Farmingdale leads season series 2-0, with a 5-4 win on Nov. 19 and a 4-3 win on Jan. 22

Farmingdale AA Season Record: 9 wins, 2 losses (currently 1st in ECRHA Division AA)

Slippery Rock AA Season Record: 7 wins, 4 losses (currently 2nd in ECRHA Division AA)

These teams are neck and neck in the ECRHA Division AA standings, with only the 2 Farmingdale wins separating the teams in the standings. This matchup, plus the other AA matchups this weekend, will give Slippery Rock that chance to gain ground or even catch up or overtake Farmingdale. Going to be a good show for sure.

Farmingdale and Slippery Rock’s DI programs will also face off this weekend, Saturday at 8pm.

NCRHA Cross-Divisional Matchup of the Week

Henry Ford College (JC) vs. Lindenwood Gold (AA)

Sunday, February 5 – 12pm

Season Head to Head: Lindenwood Gold leads season series 1-0, with a 3-2 win on Nov. 20

Henry Ford Season Standings: 7 wins, 6 losses

Lindenwood AA Gold Season Standings: 11 wins, 1 overtime loss

Pretty heavy schedule for both teams. In addition to Henry Ford, Lindenwood Gold faces off against Bethel (DI), Michigan State (DII) and Ohio State (DII), while Henry Ford also faces Grand Canyon (DI), Arizona State (DI), and Ohio State (DII).

The only time these teams have faced each other this season was the 3-2 LU Gold win back in November. A great game that went back and forth throughout and saw LU Gold scoring 2 goals in the 3rd for the win, the game-winner scored with 3:23 remaining in the 3rd. Probably the best played game on both sides of that weekend, definitely the closest – the only game 1 goal game of the event.

Enjoy the action this weekend, with live scoring from all events PLUS many games livestreamed on the NCRHA TV platform from the MCRHL Inter-Regional Event held at the Salt Creek Sports Center in Palatine, IL. Check the MCRHL game schedule for the livestream schedule, and download the app on your Roku, Firestick, Apple or Android phones, or watch online!
